34 Years Later: Honoring the Legacy of Georgia's Struggle for Independence
Today marks the 34th anniversary of the tragic events of April 9, 1989, in Tbilisi, where 21 people were killed by Russian soldiers. Ambassador Kelly Degnan visited the 9th April memorial in Tbilisi to pay her respects and honor the victims. The April 9 tragedy was a turning point in Georgia’s history, but it also left many injured and traumatized. Today, we remember not only those who lost their lives in the struggle for independence, but also those who still carry the physical and emotional scars of that day. Let us continue to work towards healing and reconciliation, and towards a peaceful and prosperous future for Georgia.” #9April #Tbilisi #Georgia #Independence
