United States government programs aim to strengthen women leadership at all levels of Georgia’s democracy.  US Ambassador Kelly Degnan attended the “Women for Development of High Mountainous Regions” grant-closing ceremony. Women’s leadership and economic sustainability for regional development grant programs are supported by USAID through the USAID Economic Governance Program in three areas, including Imereti and Racha Lechkhumi. In Imereti and Racha Lechkhumi, where the initiative is being implemented by a local civil society organization, Abkhazintercont (AIC), women beneficiaries gain new skills, get access to digital technologies, and learn how to advocate for themselves. Participants include business owners and young women who want to start their own businesses.  In all, AIC has helped more than 200 women further their entrepreneurial pursuits.
