For more than six months, the United States has been working with Georgian non-governmental organizations to prepare for today’s election, with the goal of parliamentary elections that are free, fair, transparent, and trusted by the Georgian people. Today, Ambassador Degnan visited the headquarters of two of those organizations, Public Movement Multinational Georgia (PMMG) and the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED). She shared her impressions as an election observer in Marneuli and discussed what civic society leaders are witnessing in other regions of the country. “These are highly respected, professional organizations that monitor the elections, document abuses and violations, and help ensure Georgians can campaign and vote without intimidation. It is critical that we document both the positive and negative events around the election so that the Georgian people can trust the results,” Ambassador Degnan said.
