Ambassador Dunnigan’s Remarks to Media Following a Meeting with Speaker Papuashvili
Ambassador Dunnigan: I just had an extremely productive meeting with Speaker Papuashvili. I very much appreciated meeting him and his team. We discussed a wide range of issues, including both of our desires to further strengthen our partnership. We discussed how the United States supports all of the work that Georgia is doing to further integrate with the EU and NATO. We also discussed my desire to expand our economic ties, our trade in goods, investment by Americans here and investment by Georgians in the United States.
I also expressed our deep appreciation for Georgia’s strong support for Israel in this terrible moment. The United States and Georgia stand hand to hand in our support for Israel. I also expressed our appreciation for Georgia’s very effective implementation of preventing circumvention of sanctions, helping prevent goods from getting into Russia that will help Russia and its war against Ukraine. We very much appreciated Georgia’s implementation of these international sanctions.
Finally, [ we discussed ] you know we have had our 31 years of partnership and friendship , the United States and Georgia, and we know that we will have many, many years to come. And it is both of our desire to deepen that friendship with more people-to-people ties , more trips back and forth between the United States and Georgia. And, I look forward to working with the Georgian Parliament, during my tenure here as ambassador. Thank you.
