Ambassador Kelly Attends Independence Day Celebrations on Freedom Square (May 26)

Today in Fregeotroopsedom Square, Ambassador Kelly joined the Georgian government, other heads of diplomatic missions, and distinguished visitors to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the restoration of Georgia’s independence in 1991.  Atustroopstended by Ilia II, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the festivities included remarks by Georgia’
s President, Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense.  They also featured soldiers and marching bands from Georgia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Poland.  US Abrams Tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles were also on display.  The celebrations additionally featured a performance by the Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet and a flyover by Georgian Armed Forces’ helicopters carrying Georgian flags.
