Ambassador Kelly Degnan’s Remarks to Media at Presidential Palace
July 31, 2020

Q-n: Do you think that President Zourabichvili should pardon Giorgi Rurua, and in such case, would you think that March 8 agreement was fulfilled?
Ambassador Kelly Degnan: Of course, it is the president’s prerogative to pardon. I think she made a very courageous decision regarding the other two cases, in the interests of depolarizing the political situation here, and in the end, it will be the president’s decision. The March 8th agreement included an important pledge to avoid political interference in the judicial process, and that pledge has no timeline. That was the pledge that the parties took that pertains to the past, the present and the future. Thank you!
