Ambassador Kelly Meets with Local Government Officials and Press Representatives in Georgia’s Southern Region
Thursday, March 17, 2017 — During a recent visit to the Southern part of Georgia, Ambassador Ian Kelly met with local government and civil society representatives and was interviewed by local media outlets from Ninotsminda, Akhalkalaki and Akhalitsikhe. Ambassador Kelly emphasized the United States’ support for Georgia’s independence, territorial integrity and its aspirations towards the Euro-Atlantic family.
“I look forward to deepening our cooperation with Akhalkalaki and seeing how we can increase our assistance, especially in terms of economic issues here,” said Ambassador Kelly.
Ambassador Kelly’s media engagement with the local media in Akhalkalaki followed his meeting with the Gamgebeli and the Chairman of Sakrebulo.
Q-n about the purpose of the visit to Akhalkalaki
Ambassador Kelly: This is my first trip Akhalkalaki. I spend too much time in Tbilisi so I am trying to see more regions and this is this is one of the first regions in the Southern part of the country that I have had the pleasure of seeing. I had a very good conversation with the Gamgebeli and the Chairman of Sakrebulo and I look forward to deepening our cooperation with Akhalkalaki and seeing how we can increase our assistance, especially in terms of economic issues here.
Q-n: about possible future visits
Ambassador Kelly: We discussed (a future visit). We discussed coming back in the summer when the weather is nice and I can see more of the natural resources of this beautiful region, including Lake Paravani.
