Ambassador Kelly Visits Gori American Corner (February 26)

DSC_0130During his first visit to the American Corner in Gori, Ambassador Kelly spoke with the young users of the Corner about his background as an American diplomat and his priorities as Ambassador to Georgia.  Ambassador Kelly also gave an informative presentation on his home town of Chicago, Illinois where Corner users got to see and learn about the American city’s important political history, dynamic architecture, and vibrant sports and cultural life.  The Ambassador encouraged the youth to pursue their dreams and educational ambitions, and hoped that the American Corner would help them realize both of these goals.  The U.S. government supports nine American Corners in Georgia, whose purpose is to promote understanding and deepen people-to-people ties between Americans and Georgians by offering a wide range of resources to the public free of charge (books, videos, Internet access, special interest clubs, and speaking events).  These resources encourage visitors of all ages not only to learn about America, but also to learn new skills beneficial to their education and professional development, as well as Georgia’s development as a secure, stable, and prosperous democracy.
