Ambassador Kelly’s Remarks to the Media at Hepatitis C Workshop (March 9)

Q-n about the Hepatitis C elimination program in Georgia:

Ambassador Kelly: I am always very pleased to participate in events associated with this program, the program to eliminate Hepatitis C in Georgia.  I think, of all the programs that we have, this is the one that has the biggest impact on people’s lives; and therefore is the most important technical assistance programs that we manage here in Georgia.

Q-n about Rustavi 2’s case

Ambassador Kelly: We are following very closely, of course, the judicial developments around this case.  As I have said many times, we really want Georgia to succeed.  We think that Georgia is a model for democratic development in this region; and, for that reason, we really want there to be the basic elements of checks and balances that every democracy needs.   Of course, one of those check is media pluralism, the opportunity for all voices to be heard and this is why we have spoken out about this case.

Q-n about the developments at the Patriarchy

Ambassador Kelly: Of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Ilia plays a tremendous role in Georgian society.  We greatly appreciate his deep belief, his encouragement of tolerance and of the unifying role that he plays for Georgia.  And, so, of course, we are following this case very, very closely.  We … I personal pray for his health and wish him a very long life; and, of course, we are following the developments of this case very, very closely.  Thank you.
