AAmbassador Kelly’s Remarks to Media at Women’s Political Participation Conference (December 12)

Q-n about the event

Ambassador Kelly:  I am very happy to participate in this very important forum. I think that a strong and stable democracy is a very inclusive democracy and, for that reason, we are very supportive of plans to increase participation of women both in the economy but also, very importantly, in political life.

Q-n about the release of Mikheil Saakashvili and how this reflects on Georgia

Ambassador Kelly:  Well, clearly, we are following this case very closely; the State Department is following it very closely. My colleague in Kyiv is very much engaged on the issue and I think the main thing is that there will be a due process scrupulously observed and that, in terms of its impact on Georgia, he is a former head of state and clearly our focus is to assist Georgia move into the future — assist Georgia become a prosperous and resilient state, and we are very glad that Georgia is focused on the future.
