On March 4, 2015, U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland, together with representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, international and local organizations, and leaders of political parties attended the launch of the International Republican Institute’s project entitled “Empowering Women for Better Local Governance.” Funded by USAID, the project launch is one of the many ways the U.S. Embassy and USAID are commemorating Women’s History Month in March. The “Empowering Women for Better Local Governance” project will focus on women members of eight local councils and help support their initiatives to solve problems at the local level. Additionally, the project targets other active women members of political parties in these municipalities who are working to resolve governance issues. IRI will organize a final conference at the end of the year for participants to present project outcomes.
