Ambassador Wilson’s call with Salome Zourabichvili (November 30)

“Ambassador Wilson called today on Salome Zourabichvili to congratulate her on being elected Georgia’s next president and express US interest in working with the government and her.  Separately, he met with opposition presidential candidate Grigol Vashadze.   To both, he emphasized strong US support for Georgia and for its further development as a democratic and prosperous country that is secure in its independence and territorial integrity.  The United States looks forward to the return of a calmer atmosphere, and we hope that Georgia’s agenda will very much include election-related recommendations from OSCE/ODHIR and other observers that will strengthen democracy.  In the meantime, we will continue work aimed at ensuring this country’s success, deepening US-Georgian ties, and advancing American interests here.”
