Assistant Secretary of State for Education and Cultural Affairs visits Georgia (July 10)
Marie Royce, Assistant Secretary of State for Education and Cultural Affairs arrived in Tbilisi for an official two-day visit. During her visit, A/S Royce met with the Minister of Education, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, and distinguished alumni of U.S. Government-funded exchange programs and cultural assistance beneficiaries.
A/S Royce said that she was inspired following the meeting with exchange program alumni, who represented a wide range of State Department exchange programs, and encouraged them to continue to make a difference in the world.
The Assistant Secretary also visited Tbilisi Art Palace, which was restored with assistance from the U.S. Government and won the prestigious Europa Nostra prize for its restoration works. Since 2001, through the Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation, the U.S. has awarded over one million dollars to assist Georgia’s cultural preservation efforts.
