CDA Elizabeth Rood’s Remarks to Media at 5th Annual Meeting on Hep C (November 19)
Q-n about the event
Charge d’affairs, Elizabeth Rood: With the help of the United States, Georgian health authorities have made extraordinary progress towards eradicating hepatitis C here in Georgia. At today’s meeting, experts from different parts of the world are coming to see and discuss the progress that has been made. Here in Georgia, more than 60,000 people have already successfully been treated for hepatitis C, and we will continue to cooperate with the Georgian health authorities with the goal of the complete elimination of this terrible disease. A healthy population is very important for the prosperity and well-being of any country, and so we are proud to support Georgia in this regard. And finally, I would add that you don’t get treated you if you don’t know your status, so, I would say to every Georgian citizen – get screened, know your status!
