CDA Elizabeth Rood’s Remarks to Media at National Day of China (September 27)

Q-n about the national day of China

CDA Rood:  The United States is happy to congratulate China on its national day, and we hope that Georgia’s relations with China, as well as with many friends and partners, will contribute to regional stability, security, and prosperity.

Q-n about the meeting between the foreign ministers of Georgia and Russia, and its implications for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty

CDA Rood:  As Georgia’s strategic partner, the United States firmly supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.  And so, we have been concerned about recent tensions in the relationship between Georgia and Russia, reflected in the escalation of tensions along the administrative boundary line near occupied South Ossetia, the worsening of the humanitarian situation for residents of that area, as well as the continuing ban on direct flights between Russia and Georgia.  So, in that regard, we welcome the meeting between the foreign ministers of Georgia and Russia that was facilitated and mediated by Switzerland, and we hope that it will contribute to the reduction of those tensions and improvement of the situation.
