Celebrating International Human Rights Day

On International Human Rights Day, we reiterate our commitment to helping our partner of 30 years, Georgia, in its efforts to build institutions capable of defending all individuals.

Worldwide the U.S. Department of State puts great effort into upholding human rights by identifying violations and shortcomings in the annual Human Rights Report. These reports cover internationally recognized individual, civil, political, and worker rights, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international agreements. As the champion of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, Eleanor Roosevelt once said: “Without concerted citizen action to uphold them [human rights] close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.”
