Commander of US Army Europe says it is up to Russia to avoid conflict in TV interview (May 25)

During an exclusive interview with GPB’s “Vector9“, Commander of the US Army in Europe Lt. General Ben Hodges said there doesn’t have to be a conflict with Russia. He emphasized that “It is up to Russia to live up to its own agreements, to respect the internationally recognized sovereign borders of European countries, such as Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova. These are easy steps they [Russia] can take… that would lower the risk of any conflict.” Lt General Hodges emphasized that “Russia has no legal basis” to be in the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and that “They [Russia] should leave.” Lt. General Hodges gave the interview in Tbilisi while attending the 10th annual Georgian Defense and Security Conference hosted by the Ministry of Defense of Georgia.
