October 11 is the International Day of the Girl Child. To mark this day, the U.S. Embassy organized a virtual speaker session titled, “Cyberbullying: Challenge of the Digital Era.” Adolescent girls are particularly vulnerable to cyberbullying and are more likely to have experienced cyberbullying in their lifetimes.
Khatuna Burkadze, professor and Fulbright Alumna, and John Fer, U.S. Embassy Press Attaché engaged with 73 virtual participants. The audience was comprised of American Spaces students and staff, ACCESS students, high school students, and teachers. The featured speakers educated the audience on how to identify cyberbullying, as well as measures for protection and prevention.
