Deputy Chief of Mission Elizabeth Rood Welcomed “Participants of Global Innovation through Science and Technology” Regional Startup Training Demo Day (April 23)
Comment made to the media:
Q-n about the Demo Day
DCM Rood: Future economic growth in Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan depends on the energy and innovation of young entrepreneurs. So, the United States Embassy is very pleased to sponsor these global innovations through science and technology startup training programs, where these young entrepreneurs are learning how to develop their ideas and how to pitch their ideas to investors and to bring their ideas to market to contribute to the economies of their countries.
Q-n about USS Ross being followed by two Russian vessels in the Black Sea
DCM Rood: USS Ross is visiting Georgia to demonstrate the United States’ continuing commitment to our strategic partnership with Georgia in the maritime domain in support of security in the Black Sea region. Through this visit, the United States and the Georgian Coast guard are increasing their capacity for interoperability and cooperation in maritime activities. This is part of our broader support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and regional security and nothing about it should be any threat or alarm to Russia.
Q-n: Why Russia should follow the American ship?
DCM Rood: I cannot tell you why they followed the ships but I can tell you that it is will not deter our commitment to work with Georgia to enhance security in the Black Sea region.
