DCM Elizabeth Rood’s Remarks to Media at State Sokhumi University (November 6)

Q-n about the event

DCM Elizabeth Rood:   It is an honor for me today to visit Sokhumi State University and to have the opportunity to meet with the rector and to meet students from  the law faculty and the political science faculty.  It is a very useful opportunity to have discussions about the longstanding support of the United States Embassy in Georgia for the judicial sector and for legal education.  We have number of programs that have been helping Georgia over the years to develop one of the most important elements of a system of checks and balances.  I am also very honored to be here in the context of the United States’ continuing unwavering support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. The United States, in the framework of Geneva international discussions, strongly supports resolution of the continuing conflict over the Abkhazia region of Georgia and we are working very hard to address all of the important issues surrounding this situation in the Geneva talks.
