DCM Nicholas Berliner’s Media engagement at the Parliament in Kutaisi following President Margvelashvili’s Speech (April 7)

Q-n about President Margvelashvili’s address to the Parliament and his appeal to the international community to support Georgia’s aspiration to NATO membership at the NATI Summit?

DCM Berliner: President Trump gave a speech (yesterday) that laid out a lot of the very topical themes, including important issues right now that are facing Georgia and that are discussed quite often here.  So, I thought it was a very interesting speech.  As to the question of the NATO Summit, the United States’ position has been very clear.  It has been clear for many years: the United States has supported Georgia in these efforts.  We continue to support Georgia in a number of ways.

Q-n about the strikes in Syria- was it something expected?

DCM Berliner: Our President made a statement last night.  These strikes were carried out in reaction and response to what was a horrific act on the part of the Syrian regime — one that has been condemned almost universally; one that is in violation of all international standards.
