Location: Announced gathering points include, but are not limited to, the following neighborhoods in Tbilisi, Georgia:
- Downtown
- 51 Chavchavadze Avenue in the Vake District
Event: The U.S. Embassy is aware that there will be numerous events and activities this evening (August 7) throughout downtown Tbilisi commemorating the 10 year anniversary of the 2008 Georgia-Russia War. There is also a planned annual demonstration at 51 Chavchavadze Avenue in the Vake District with the majority of participants expected to assemble at 7:00 p.m. Small and sporadic gatherings may occur in the vicinity throughout the early evening.
U.S. government personnel have been advised to avoid those areas during this period.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
