Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, Georgia
4 MINUTE READ
July 6, 2021

A protest is planned today, July 6, in front of the Parliament building at 20:00hrs tonight. U.S. Government personnel are advised that the demonstrators will protest the violent attacks on journalists yesterday that occurred during anti-LGBTQI+ protests. A far-right group that was involved in violence on July 5th and is opposed to LGBTQI+ rights has called for a counter-protest to occur at 19:00hrs on Rustaveli Avenue, and another is falsely labeling the protest the “Pride March” online. It is important to remember that large crowds are unpredictable and confrontations and violence between event attendees, counterdemonstrators, and police can occur without warning. Additionally, there has been a significant amount of violence during Pride week events. U.S. Government personnel are advised to exercise caution when traveling downtown and avoid the gathering.
