Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, Georgia (November 1, 2020)

 

Location: Near Parliament in downtown Tbilisi

Event: Reports indicate that a demonstration may occur near Parliament in downtown Tbilisi today (Sunday, November 1) at 4pm following the official announcement of parliamentary election results.

U.S. Government personnel have been advised to avoid areas with a large police presence, which is an indicator of large gatherings with the potential for violence, and to exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations.  Those who are in hotels, restaurants, or other businesses near protest activity should remain in the building until crowds dissipate.

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
  • Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists
  • Review your personal security plans
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible
