Location: Left and right embankment roads along the Mtkvari River, Tbilisi, Georgia
Event: The Embassy is tracking an announced protest that could have traffic implications across Tbilisi. The protest organizers have announced that at 15:00, they intend to block the left and right embankment roads along the Mtkvari river. The organizers have not announced the location that they will block the roads, however, given their meeting place, the Embassy assesses that the most likely point of blockade is near the Nikoloz Baratashvili Street bridge. Regardless of the point where the protesters gather, blockage of these main artery roads would have a significant impact on traffic across the city. The police have already announced that blocking the roads is a violation of law, and therefore the Embassy anticipates that there will be significant police attention at any point demonstrators gather.
The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that large crowds are unpredictable and confrontations and violence among event attendees, counterdemonstrators, and police can occur with little or no warning. U.S. government personnel are advised to exercise caution and to avoid this area.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the area
- Monitor local media for updates.
