Location: In front of the Parliament building, downtown Tbilisi, Georgia
Event: The Embassy is tracking a demonstration today at 6pm in front of the Parliament building in downtown Tbilisi, against the arrest and imprisonment of those involved in violent attacks on journalists in July 2021. Several of the groups involved in violence on July 5th and 6th have called on supporters to attend.
The Embassy reminds U.S. citizens that large crowds are unpredictable and confrontations and violence among event attendees, counterdemonstrators, and police can occur without warning. U.S. government personnel are advised to exercise caution when traveling downtown and to avoid this area.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the area.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Review your personal security plans.
