Dr. Redfield’s Comments to Media at FELTP Network Launch (May 24)
Q-n about the importance of the FELTP program
Dr. Robert Redfield: Well, the Field Epidemiology Program is a very important program that can build public health capacity of the countries in which it’s developing. In our country many years ago we developed what we call the EIS program and it really is the backbone of public health in America. And the Field Epidemiology Program is mirrored off of that, where people study public health principles for two years and then they become the backbone of public health in the communities that they then go off to serve. Since this program here [in Georgia] started in 2009, 127 individuals from four countries in the region have now completed this program and now are able to complement the public health efforts of these respected countries.
