Elizabeth Rood’s Remarks to Media at Wreath Laying Ceremony in Mtskheta
Q-n about the event
DCM Elizabeth Rood: We are very honored today to lay a wreath at this monument, which is in honor of the firefighters in the United States who lost their lived in the attack of September 11th. But it’s also a monument to all the firefighters and rescuers in Georgia, who have sacrificed their lives to save people. This action also reminds us of how important it is, as cities grow, to provide green space for recreation and enjoyment and to protect the environment. It is one of the most important things we can do for future generations.
Q-n about the U.S. – Georgia partnership with a focus on Mtskheta region
DCM Elizabeth Rood: Our cooperation here in Mtskheta-Mtianeti is part of the deep and abiding strategic partnership between the United States and Georgia. Our action today we are doing together with our Office of Defense Cooperation, which has a number of projects ongoing and planned in Mtskheta-Mtianeti. There are going to be some new wells that are dug to provide water; we are building a shelter for elderly people who have no families to care for them, with a particular focus on Internally Displaced Persons from the conflict in South Ossetia, as well as the provision of other construction equipment and medical equipment.
