Embassy-Led Roundtable Advances Efforts Against Domestic Violence in Georgia

In a recent multi-disciplinary roundtable addressing domestic violence, over 30 participants, including prosecutors, investigators, forensic experts, service providers, NGOs, law enforcement, and judges, convened to collaboratively identify common challenges in addressing DV in Georgia.  The goal was to explore solutions with the guidance of visiting DV expert judges, including Judge Kelly, chief of the nationally recognized DV model court in Miami-Dade with over 25 years of experience in DV courts.  Alongside her colleague, Judge Espinosa, they shared concrete examples of successful U.S. practices to tackle the challenges raised by the participants.
The discussions yielded a list of challenges and issues, which will serve as the groundwork for future roundtables aimed at exploring reforms and practices.  The group looks forward to INL’s regular roundtable meetings and creation of written resources detailing U.S. practices in combating domestic violence.
