Embassy’s Export Control and Related Border Security program Receives Award from World Customs Organization (January 26)

On January 26, Monica Dorado, the Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program Advisor, was presented with a merit award from the World Customs Organization.  The award was presented on International Customs Day in recognition of EXBS’s exceptional service to the international customs community, in particular the partnership and assistance provided to the Customs Department of the Georgia Revenue Service.  EXBS has a long-standing relationship with the Georgian Customs Department, having provided training, equipment, and expertise over the last nine years.

The EXBS program is a U.S. Government program, managed by the Department of State’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, designed to help prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD).  In the last several years, the EXBS program in Georgia has provided over $20 million in assistance with training, equipment and technical expertise to support strengthening Georgia’s border security, export controls and non-proliferation efforts.
