Ilia State University with the Lavin Entrepreneurship Center at San Diego State University in California, U.S.A. are looking for innovative and dedicated beneficiaries for the entrepreneurial training program, which is part of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia program PAVING THE WAY TO A KNOWLEDGE-BASED ECONOMY: ENHANCING UNIVERSITY RESEARCH AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS IN GEORGIA – implemented by the consortia led by Ilia State University.

The training program will be delivered at Ilia State University facilities June 18-29, 2018. The training is designed by ISU and SDSU, and will be delivered by KIMBERLY DAVIS KING.

Kim Davis King has over 17 years in the venture capital industry and has been focused on investing and mentoring startups and high growth companies.  Kim currently serves as Adjunct Professor at SDSU teaching courses in Entrepreneurship and the Lavin Program and serves on the selection and review committee for local tech incubator, EvoNexus.  She is also a lecturer at the UCSD Rady Business School and co-directs the StartR, mystartupxx and social innovation ventures accelerator programs for Rady business school graduates and UCSD students. She holds a B.S in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School.

The training program will be mainly focused on learning lean startup principles, business model canvas, how to identify scalable new venture ideas that fulfill market needs, state customer value propositions and add social and economic value. Participants will be encouraged to think BIG, most of the ideas discussed will be around “game-changing” technologies.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

• Identify potential entrepreneurial opportunities and learn a scientific, systematic and iterative process for recognizing, evaluating and testing opportunity. Utilize screening and feasibility tools to effectively conduct a testing/feasibility analysis to determine the worthiness of a potential new business idea.

• Learn the ability to communicate, identify mentally, persuade and discuss with stakeholders in the business environment.

• Managing the life of entrepreneurship.

• Develop and test business opportunity using Customer Development

• Rapidly test prototypes and gather customer insight

• Develop marketing strategy for value creation

The above mentioned program is intended for the motivated, hard-working participants with global vision as the classes require a high level of involvement.

Specific information about the program:


  • Participants should be able to communicate and engage in conversations where English will be a working language.
  • Age requirement is between 17-35 years;
  • CV & Motivation Letter explaining what participants expect to get out of the training, and how they expect to apply the knowledge they get, should be in English and being sent at the e-mail address specified:  zoomout@iliauni.edu.ge;
  • Applicants will be shortlisted for the interview. The interview process will resemble a hiring process for the actual startup. In addition, participants will be asked to make a short 2-3 min pitch to the panel of judges
  • The panel of judges will represent Lavin Center (SDSU), ZoomOut (ISU), U.S. Embassy in Georgia, GITA
