The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi hosted award-winning filmmaker Gale Anne Hurd from October 12-15 in Tbilisi, organizing engagements centered on disinformation. She is a celebrated American film and television producer known for iconic works such as The Terminator, Aliens, and The Walking Dead.
During her visit, she delivered a masterclass at the Tbilisi International Student Film Festival to students pursuing studies in cinematography, production, journalism, and related fields. Hurd also met with deans and professors from Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) and the public health schools of Tbilisi State University and Ilia State University to discuss disinformation. Hurd’s keynote event – alongside director Alex Winter, who participated virtually – was a public film screening hosted at Fabrika and discussion of her most recent documentary, The YouTube Effect. Hurd sparked lively conversation about the impact of platforms like YouTube on democratic governance and other topics like gender equity.
