First Shipment of US Wheat Arrives in Georgia (December 6)
This week the first shipment of high-quality U.S. wheat arrived in Poti under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food for Progress program. Georgian companies can now buy U.S. Hard Red Winter Wheat in Georgia and explore new ingredient options for high-quality bread and pastries.
The proceeds from the sale of this wheat will be invested in Georgia’s livestock sector. This investment will strengthen the beef and dairy sectors by increasing agricultural productivity and distributing information on farm management best practices. Additionally, the Food for Progress program includes food safety and quality improvements, product innovation, and marketing assistance with the goal of expanding agricultural trade opportunities for Georgian farmers.
