Free English Writing Skills Course with the U.S. Embassy
Want to improve your English-language academic writing skills? The U.S. State Department is partnering with UC Berkeley and EdX to provide “ColWri.2.2x: Principles of Written English Part 2,” a free 5-week online course that begins 4 February 2015.
For those serious about improving their English writing, the U.S. Embassy is organizing special facilitation sessions in Tbilisi. Register today to join U.S. diplomat Yoon Nam and English instructor Dr. Nikoloz Parjanadze, who will lead discussions and exercises to enhance the online instruction and improve your English writing skills.

What will I learn?
College Writing 2.2x is the second part of the academic writing course. In this part, you will focus on proofreading and self-editing; revision vs. editing; common errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling; understanding tone and diction; vocabulary development. The course materials will be offered via readings, videos, and various types of homework assignments. There are suggested optional textbooks for additional writing work. You will participate in online discussions as well as peer review of your writing. You will complete one full essay for this part of the course.
Will I receive credit or a certificate?
All participants who complete the online course and abide by the EdX Honor Code will receive a personalized Honor Code Certificate from EdX to showcase your achievement.
Those who attend all facilitation sessions and complete the work satisfactorily will receive a Certificate of Completion from the U.S. Embassy Tbilisi.
Who should take this course?
Course content is likely to be most useful to university and graduate-level students, but all those looking to improve their English writing are welcome.
What are the prerequisites?
Students should be proficient enough in English to follow an introductory level university course.
How much time will it take to complete the course?
Online coursework will take 4-5 hours per week. Participants in the facilitation sessions will spend 2 additional hours per week on discussion and homework.
