The United States is helping build the resilience of first responders of Racha. The recent forest fires in Borjomi and Ambrolauri have shown the importance of interagency cooperation. During Ambassador Degnan’s recent visit, she attended the Racha Regional Response Exercise (GEMA) supported by the State of Georgia Emergency Management Agency and National Guard Soldiers, where Racha’s first responders will learn skills to help them be better prepared to respond to crises response and the U.S. Government stands ready to continue its support. Participants from the Georgian side included the Emergency Management Agency, Georgian National Guard, Border Police, and local regional leadership. The skills acquired at these exercises will make Georgia more resilient against natural disasters and better able to mitigate crises.
