Georgian law enforcement professionals participated in DV Course at ILEA

On October 24-28, 2022, with the support of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Section (INL) of the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi and the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) in Budapest, Hungary, a group of Georgian law enforcement professionals from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and General Prosecutors Office of Georgia, attended one-week Domestic and Gender-Based Violence course at the ILEA.

The 5-day course was taught by Illinois State Police representatives and focused on the investigation of crimes related to domestic violence, sexual assault, and physical and sexual abuse including the social, legal, and cultural aspects of sexual and gender-based violence. Law enforcement professionals from Moldova, Albania, and Kyrgyz Republic also attended the training and Georgian professionals had the opportunity to discuss the challenges and share the best practices with not only U.S. but law enforcement representatives from the above countries.

INL section of the U.S. Embassy will continue to work with the Government of Georgia to improve the capacities of Georgian law enforcement professionals to effectively investigate and prosecute domestic and gender-based violence crimes in Georgia.
