INL Director Sarah Rupert’s Remarks to Ministry of Internal Affairs Press

The US Embassy in Tbilisi through the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement section has been cooperating with the Ministry of Internal Affairs for over two decades. We have been supporting the modernization of the police force through the building of skills of law enforcement professionals and strengthening of institutions. We do that through practical skills-based training, invitations to international conferences, study visits and exchanges between U.S. and Georgian experts. We are proud of our continued cooperation, and we are most excited about an upcoming event, the 10th Annual Women in Policing Conference that will take place here in Georgia, when we’ll host more than 20 countries from around Europe and Asia. We plan to continue our cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs to strengthen both investigation skills, countering domestic violence and gender-based violence, improving forensics capacities through equipment donations, and continued expert exchanges.
