Q: When do jobs typically open at the U.S. Embassy?
A: There is no particular vacancy season at the U.S. Embassy.
Q: How is the hiring selection made?
A: The applications will be reviewed and shortlisted via Electronic Recruitment Application (ERA). These applicants are called for required testing as needed and interview. The American manager of the hiring section makes the final decision on the selection.
Q: Can I apply for more than one position?
A: Yes. Applicants can apply for more than one position by submitting a separate application for each vacancy via ERA. Please note that in order to be considered for a vacancy, the candidate must meet all requirements listed in the announcement.
Q: Do I need to have proficiency in English to be able to work at the Embassy?
A: Language requirements – including English level requirements – vary depending on the position. Detailed information about language requirements are listed in each vacancy announcement.
Q: I don’t have the experience or education that the position requires. Can I still apply?
A: If you do not have the experience and/or the relevant education listed on the vacancy announcement, you will not be considered qualified by ERA.
Q: I am a U.S. citizen living in Georgia. Do I have hiring preference?
A: No preferences are given to U.S citizens living in Georgia.
Q: Can U.S citizens apply for the vacant positions?
A: To work as a locally employed staff member of the U.S. Mission to Georgia U.S. Citizens must have the legal right to work in Georgia and meet the qualification requirements for the position. Candidates MUST send a copy of one of the following documents with the application in order to be considered for the position: Dual Citizenship certificate, work or residence permit. Applicants who do not comply with this requirement will not be considered.
Q: Why is the Embassy using ERA for recruitment?
A: The purpose of ERA is to standardize and streamline the recruitment processes at U.S. embassies worldwide.
Q: How do I know that my ERA account has been created?
A: Once your account is created, you will receive an email confirming this. Make sure you safeguard the account email, password, and security questions/answers as you will need to remember this information in order to access to your ERA account.
Q: How do I upload documents into ERA? In addition, what are the required documents I need to submit to apply for a position?
A: After answering vacancy questions and entering information on education and work experience, you will see an option to upload documents.
Click “Upload from your computer” to attach documents to your application. Select “Document Type” using the dropdown menu.
Enter the Document Description. Click “Browse” and find the right file. Click “Upload.” Note that only one file may be uploaded per document type. Loading multiple documents of the same type will result in previously uploaded documents being replaced by the most recently uploaded file. Click “Save and Continue.”
We request different types of documents for different vacancies. Information on required documents is listed in each announcement. If one or more requested document types are not attached, you will receive a “Missing Document?” pop-up window.
Examples of documents required: proof of education (transcripts or diploma), driver’s license (different categories), passport.
Q: I forgot my ERA account password. What do I do?
A: Click the Forgot password button and respond to the security questions. Click the link you will receive by email to reset your password. Enter a new password that meets the requirements. Click the submit button. You’ll receive a note from the system stating that your password has been reset. Enter your username and a new password to log in.
Q: I don’t remember the response to one of my security questions.
A: If you don’t remember a case sensitive response to one of your security questions, you will not be able to login to your ERA account. If this occurs, create a new account, using a different email address.
Q Will I be informed in case I am not selected for the position?
A: Normally, if you do not hear from us within six weeks of the closing of the vacancy announcement, you should assume that your application was not successful. We only contact applicants to inform them of their non-selection if they were interviewed.
