The U.S. Embassy’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs section celebrated the completion of the twelve-week drug detection instructor and handler course on April 7. This intensive training program for the Ministry of Internal Affairs Patrol Police provided training for two drug detection handler trainers and five drug detection dog handlers. The instructors were tutored by master trainers working for the U.S. Park Police under an interagency agreement funded by INL-Tbilisi. Additionally, INL provided five drug detection dogs to the Patrol Police to be used in anti-drug trafficking effort. The project is intended to provide the Patrol Police with counter-drug trafficking assistance to interrupt and deter the flow of illicit drugs through the Tbilisi International Airport and other border crossing points.
