May 20, 2020

In Case You Missed It: All of our previous COVID-19 messages and current status information are posted on the embassy’s website

FLIGHTS: We are happy to share news that Georgian Airways has announced additional flights in June that may work for U.S. citizens still seeking to return to the United States.  Please consult a travel agent or airline representative to book these flights or find out what connections are available from each of these cities:

  • 22 May – Tbilisi to Rome (connections to USA require overnight in Rome)
  • 29 May / 12 June / 26 June: Tbilisi to Paris* (direct connections to USA available; see notes below)
  • 01 June / 15 June / 27 June: Tbilisi to Amsterdam** (RECOMMENDED! – direct connections to USA available; see notes below)
  • 08 June / 17 June / 26 June: Tbilisi to Berlin (no direct connections to US; transit requires a transfer between airports)

Regular commercial service on multiple airlines may resume on July 1; first flights TBD.

*Transit through Paris: You must fill out and carry with you a signed “attestation” form, available here, with the English version here. You must have a direct connection to an onward flight to the United States.  U.S. citizens are NOT permitted to transit Paris for travel from the U.S. to other destinations.

**Transit through Amsterdam: Please notify us if you plan to transit Amsterdam; we can send your information to CBP and TSA in advance which can help smooth your boarding and transit procedures at AMS airport. You will be not be allowed to depart the transit zone of the airport, even to collect/re-check luggage, but alternate arrangements can be made to transfer your luggage to your connecting flight.

If you cannot afford to buy a ticket for flights to the U.S. you may apply for a repatriation loan from the U.S. government to purchase the ticket; please contact the embassy for details.

Need to drive to the airport during curfew hours? Send us your plans (names, vehicle/driver info, time, and address of departure) and the embassy can request permission from local authorities for you to drive to the airport during the curfew.

The State of Emergency is expected to end on Friday, May 22.

Hotels in Georgia will be permitted to reopen beginning June 15.

Enroll in STEP: No message from us would be complete with a plug for our Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)! Yes, the webform can be a little clunky, but it gets the job done, enabling embassies around the world to reach U.S. citizens who are traveling overseas and share the news we have that may help you make informed decisions for your safety and security.

Sincerely,
American Citizen Services
