The U.S. Embassy has begun a region-wide resilience capacity building effort in Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti region. The foundation of the effort is the ongoing cooperation between the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) and the Georgian Defense Forces, Georgian National Guard, General Mazniashvili Youth Legion, Emergency Management Service, Georgian Border Police, and Regional Health Care Center in the Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti Region. Building off that cooperation, ODC took part in a meeting with Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti regional leadership, municipality mayors and various ministry representatives to discuss cooperation between the regional and municipal governments, Georgian government agencies and the U.S. to build resilience in Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti region. As part of this effort, the U.S. donated computers to four municipality medical facilities to assist in their records digitization efforts. Additionally, the U.S. state of Georgia will help advise regional and municipal administrations on emergency response planning. This is the start of a multi-year effort to provide advice, training and some equipment to the Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti region. The end result will be increased regional resilience in Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti.
