Rear Admiral Paul Verrastro visit to Georgia (June 19)

Today, European Command Director of Logistics, Rear Admiral Paul Verrastro visited the Emergency Management Service (EMS) and met Mr. Giorgi Mghebrishvili, Director of the Service to discuss ongoing structural and legislative changes as well as support that the US Department of Defense provides to EMS to improve country’s disaster response capabilities.

Rear Admiral Verrastro also visited Emergency Management Agency First Responder Training Base where European Command Office of Defense Cooperation (EUCOM ODC) implemented humanitarian assistance projects in previous years. US Department of Defense Humanitarian Assistance (HA) Program provides significant support to Georgia to increase country’s disaster preparedness and disaster response capabilities.

The equipment and training facilities, provided through these projects, improve Georgia’s capability to respond to fires and other disasters, and foster a strong partnership between the EMS and the US government. This partnership enables us to build institutional emergency preparedness capacity through complementary programs by promoting interagency communication and cooperation.
