Security Alert – U.S. Embassy Tbilisi, Georgia
4 MINUTE READ
November 20, 2020

Location: Georgia

Event:  Georgia will hold runoff parliamentary elections tomorrow (November 21), which may generate pedestrian and vehicle traffic at polling stations throughout the country. Similar to the elections on October 31, large rallies and/or groups of people can appear without advance notice and this may occur throughout the country; street closures should be anticipated.

U.S. Government personnel have been advised to avoid areas with a large police presence, which is an indicator of large gatherings with the potential for violence, and to exercise caution if in the vicinity of any demonstrations.  Those who are in hotels, restaurants, or other businesses near protest activity should remain in the building until crowds dissipate.

Actions to Take:

  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
  • Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists
  • Review your personal security plans
  • Have travel documents up to date and easily accessible
