Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstration

The U.S. Embassy Tbilisi informs U.S. citizens that a demonstration is expected to take place on Sunday, 1 October 2017, starting at 4PM at Rose Revolution Square.

The group Alliance of Patriots of Georgia has planned a political rally/demonstration to take place in downtown Tbilisi on Sunday, 1 October 2017, starting at 4PM.   The demonstration is expected to take place at Rose Revolution Square and will impact vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Rustaveli Avenue.  According to social media the demonstration is expected to draw 1,000 participants and may last several hours.

In addition the group has planned another demonstration for 8 October 2017, starting at 4PM at Freedom Square.  It is possible these weekly protests will continue for an unspecified amount of time.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
