Since 2018, U.S. Embassy Tbilisi’s Civil-Military Support Element (CMSE) has been cooperating with the Democrat Women’s Organization (DWO), which operates a women’s health clinic in Akhaltsikhe. The clinic primarily supports women’s health and conducts cancer screenings for the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the clinic has seen a 20 percent increase in visits. In order to accommodate this increased workload and continue their operation without disruption, the clinic approached CMSE with a request for support in the form of personal protective equipment (PPE) and disinfectants. The purchase of the requested equipment was coordinated with the charity Spirit of America, which donated $1,100 worth of PPE and disinfectant, helping the clinic to continue its operation and its contribution to Georgia’s response to COVID-19.
