The U.S. Government through USAID supports Georgia in Improving the Quality of Governance (October 2)

The U.S. Government, in partnership with the Government of Georgia, is working to improve the quality of governance in the country. Democracy flourishes when government agencies are transparent, accountable, and effective. The government of the United States, through USAID’s Good Governance Initiative, supports the Civil Service Bureau in its reform efforts. We stand ready to support the Government of Georgia to continue to implement its reform agenda.

On September 30, the Deputy Director of USAID’s Democracy, Governance, and Social Development Office, Laura Berger, participated in the Civil Service Bureau’s conference on Public Sector Reform. The event provided an excellent opportunity to share experiences and discuss solutions to common challenges.

Political commitment at the highest level is critical to pursuing necessary structural changes and to ensuring the kind of communication and coordination within the government that is necessary to sustain difficult reforms.
The transformation of the Civil Service Bureau since 2012 is a great example of a successful institution building, which can eventually lead to a new level of partnership between Georgia and the United States
