U.S. Embassy Statement on Resumption of Gali Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (March 24)

The U.S. Embassy welcomes the agreement reached March 23 by Georgian and Abkhaz participants at the 35th round of the Geneva International Discussions to resume the Gali Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM).

The resumption of the IPRM, which had been suspended since 2012, will help to increase confidence, transparency, and communications along the Administrative Boundary Line of Abkhazia.  With its resumption, the IPRM will help to defuse tensions and solve pressing humanitarian issues affecting people on the ground.

The U.S. Embassy joins the international community in applauding the constructive approach taken by the participants during the latest round of the Geneva International Discussions.
