U.S. – Georgia Legal Professionals Exchange Jury Trial Best Practices
On October 30-November 3, the U.S. Embassy International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) office facilitated a study visit for thirteen criminal defense lawyers from Georgia to visit the United States to learn about U.S. jury trial best practices. The group was hosted by the Miami-Dade Public Defenders’ Office, who previously had conducted jury trial trainings in Batumi and Tbilisi in November 2022. The group observed two criminal trials to verdict in Miami and met with judges, prosecutors, and defense counsel to exchange experiences. This exchange is part of the Embassy’s continued dedication to strengthening access to justice in Georgia and in recognition of the critical role the defense services play in supporting a robust rule of law based criminal justice system.
