The United States donated new ultrasound systems to the Rukhi Republican Hospital and Kazbegi Municipality Medical Center to help them increase their capacity to treat patients with COVID-19 and treat patients in remote villages. The donated equipment is worth $50,000 and is used to manage COVID-19 related complications. The ultrasound systems will be a valuable tool for clinicians treating COVID-19 patients, due to their imaging capabilities, portability, and ease of disinfection.
Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Catherine Schweitzer, Defense Attaché COL Stephanie Bagley, Head of the Office of Defense Cooperation LTC Povilas Strazdas, and Bilateral Affairs Officer MAJ Daniel Sekula participated in hand-over ceremonies to Rukhi and Kazbegi hospitals. The donation of the equipment was made possible through the U.S. Department of Defense’s Humanitarian Assistance program, which supports Georgia’s ability to respond to the pandemic.
