The Embassy of the United States of America and the Georgian Basketball Federation will hold a joint press conference at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 6, at the Ministry of Youth and Sport to announce a competition for participation in a basketball exchange program for Georgian teenage girls between age 14 and 18. The U.S. State Department will finance all costs associated with the exchange program.
The competition will be held the third week of February in cities across Georgia. For those interested in applying, detailed information about the exchange program can be found on the Embassy’s Facebook page. To be competitive for the program, interested candidates should demonstrate strong basketball skills, proficiency in spoken English, and a desire to learn more about the importance of gender equality.
The upcoming basketball exchange program is the second of its kind in Georgia. In January 2015, the first group of Georgian participants returned from their basketball exchange in the United States. On that trip, two Georgian boys, two Georgian girls, and one Georgian coach participated in 12 days of trainings and meetings alongside players and coaches from Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, and Moldova.
The government of the United States is proud to continue supporting youth development and education in Georgia.
